Village Named "Playful City USA" . . .
Last week, the Village of Palmetto Bay was officially designated a 2010 Playful City USA
for our dedication to being a healthy and active community. Be sure to stay tuned to Facebook for an exciting announcement.

FY 10-11 Proposed Budget . . .
The
proposed 2010-2011 fiscal year budget is now available. The Council will have two budget hearings in September. Both hearings are open to the public. The goal is to continue building community and providing high levels of service.

Mosaic at Park View Building . . .
A unique mosaic has been integrated directly with the building architecture of the new concession facility at Coral Reef Park – the first piece to be introduced in the community as part of our Art in Public Places program. See photos on Facebook.

Friendly Reminder to Business Owners . . .
Attention local business owners, all business licenses must be renewed by Oct. 1. The Village is accepting license renewal fees, and renewal notices will be sent out soon. If you have any questions, please call at (305) 259-1234.

Let us be your Host ... Great public space is available for rent throughout the Village to host a birthday party, work seminar, and/or a memorable wedding by the Bay. (Aug. 30, 2010)

Deering Floway Project ... A portion of Old Cutler Road was closed in early August for construction of the Deering Estate Flowway Project -- part of a larger plan to restore Biscayne Bay. See detour details, project drawings, and a Village press release. (July 20, 2010)

Orchid Revival ... Palmetto Bay resident Laurel Nanney recently submitted an essay regarding our lost orchids. Check out the pictures and article on our Facebook page. (Aug. 23, 2010)

Deering's PLAY Day
... Residents get a FREE “P.L.A.Y.” Day, Aug 21, at the Deering Estate at Cutler to enjoy eco-art, science discovery programs, & historic house tours. All Palmetto Bay residents get free admission -- a significant savings! (Aug. 12, 2010)

New Face in Town ... Construction crews installed the clock into the Village Hall tower last weekend. Another recent milestone was the capping of the new municipal complex with a 1,500-pound signature blue dome. (Aug. 4, 2010)

Oil Spill Update ...
Palmetto Bay's Director-Planning & Zoning Julian Perez participated in today's coastal cities conference call, hosted by Miami-Dade County. See the summary for the latest on the Deepwater Horizon spill.

Bonnie Begs the Question ... As reported in USAToday Tropical Storm Bonnie may be out of sight, but not out of mind as residents consider whether they are truly ready for the remainder of the hurricane season. Visit our Preparedness page and Public Works brochure. (July 2010)

Bike Path Improvements ... Mayor Flinn and Council joined
Commissioner Sorenson Friday at her groundbreaking of
Old Cutler Bike Path improvements. Ceremony also drew residents and officials from Cutler Bay. Thanks, Starbucks, for comp'ing iced-coffee. (July 16, 2010)
